rising of the shield hero web novel, Light Novel, Manga, Anime?

The Rising of the Shield Hero is a story told across different platforms. It is being told in Manga, novels, animation, and other formats.

If you have reached this page, chances are you watched the Anime and want to know more. But then you quickly discover that there is a web novel, light novel and manga series.

What is the difference between them and, ultimately, which one should you get? I will help you decide below.

rising of the shield hero web novel

Aneko Yusagi wrote the web novel. It started in 2009, so you can tell that this is old work. Originally published as a web novel, the story has been re-written by Media Factory. The illustrations are by Seira Minami. There are twenty-two volumes so far. As of June 25, 2019, twenty-two volumes have been published.

I already mentioned that the story started back in 2009, but what does it mean? It means that there are hundreds of chapters available online for free. It is a long read, and you can’t wait for it to be finished because they won’t finish it anytime soon.

Currently, the web novel is on Volume 14 (chapter 55). Unfortunately, the Anime caught up with the current volume, so they will never be able to animate all of them or at least not soon. In short, the web novel is still ongoing, and it isn’t even finished yet. If you want to read all of it before anything else, then be my guest.

Aneko Yusagi writes the light novel with illustrations by Seira Minami. It started in 2014, so you will find that it is a reasonably new work. You can tell by its design and illustrations. It has nine volumes so far, and the tenth one should come out in 2020.

The light novel caught my attention when I noticed all of the illustrations. They are beautiful! Seira Minami did an amazing job with them to the point where I wanted to read the light novel just for them. I like Anime with illustrations and Manga, but reading is something entirely different.

The Light Novel is different from the Web Novel because it includes illustrations. It will take more time to read than the Web Novel. I would recommend this for people who want more Shield Hero after they finish watching the Anime.

The Light Novel is still being made. However, it’s much farther ahead than Anime and Manga.

Rising of the Shield Hero Manga adaptation

The Rising of the Shield Hero (盾の勇者の成り上がり Tate no Yūsha no Nariagari?) A manga series adapts to the light novel series written by Aneko Yusagi and illustrated by Seira Minami.

The manga series was written and illustrated by Aiya Kyū and published by Media Factory. There are eighteen volumes and one special volume released as of March 23, 2021.

The Manga has no extra information in the book. However, there is a lot of additional info at the end of each volume.

There are also some definite improvements over the Anime, such as the depiction of Raphtalia’s fight against a certain nobleman, which was censored in the Anime.

Rising of the Shield Hero Anime adaptation

Finally, the most popular of them all, the Anime. The Rising of the Shield Hero anime is a Japanese anime series created by Kinema Citrus and directed by Takao Abo.

The Anime started airing on January 9 2019, and it is still ongoing with no confirmed end yet. You can watch it on Crunchyroll.

If you watched the Anime and want more, then this is for you. However, the Manga and Light novels are not as far ahead as Anime, so that you will find some differences here and there.
