Kyoko Hori is a bright and popular high school student, in contrast to Izumi Miyamura, a nerdy, glasses-wearing boy. Home is where Hori dresses down and looks after her younger brother, Souta. Since she doesn’t want her social status to be disrupted and cause worry among her classmates, she tries to hide this from them. Souta comes home with a nosebleed one day.

He is accompanied by a boy with numerous tattoos and piercings, who introduces himself as Miyamura. Hori recognizes them even when she is dressed down, so they agree to keep their true identities a secret from their peers. Over time, as they learn more about one another, they discover they have more in common than they originally thought.

As a team, they agree to assist one another in keeping their identities secret after school. After some time, they suddenly find themselves closer than ever and eventually become a couple.

2. Rent A Girlfriend

Kazuya Kinoshita is a college student whose girlfriend dumps him after a month of dating. Trying to overcome his depression, he rents a girlfriend named Chizuru Mizuhara but finds her inauthentic. During their second date, he calls her out, which results in her revealing her true colors.

When Kazuya’s grandmother is hospitalized for the second time, his family is shocked to find his “girlfriend” with him at the hospital. Kazuya’s grandmother goes to tell the other elder women about Kazuya, and Chizuru panics as one of them is her own grandmother. Kazuya is ready to move on with his love life after leaving the hospital, but when he and Chizuru discover that they attend the same college, that plan is halted.

3. My First Girlfriend is a Gal

Junichi Hashiba, a high school student, laments not having a girlfriend because his classmates are pairing up everywhere. Yukana Yame is a beautiful student at the school and one of his single friends, who forces him to confess his love to her.

As Yukana quickly realizes that Junichi really just wants to lose his virginity, she agrees to be his girlfriend. In time, Junichi attracts the affections of other girls who have known Junichi or Yukana for a while, including his childhood friend and neighbor Nene, Yukana’s gal friend Ranko, and the school’s madonna Yui.

4. My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU

Hachiman Hikigaya is the protagonist of one of our most beloved romance series, but he’s a loner at school. We all know his pessimistic attitude. The way he deals with problems made him the anime list’s favorite slice-of-life protagonist. Unfortunately, he is a loner and doesn’t have any friends.

He was forced to join a club that helps people with issues one day due to his feeling that he doesn’t need any. The two girls met, which led to the formation of the club. From there, Hikigaya’s romantic comedy begins as he gets to know these girls and becomes friends with them.

The series has three seasons so far, with incredible plots and characters. Even the art style improves from season to season, which was great to see since it looked much better than in season one. Definitely recommend watching Oregairu anime with unpopular MC if you haven’t already.

5. Dance with Devils

Ritsuka Tachibana, a seemingly average schoolgirl, finds herself embroiled in a conflict between demons and vampires at her school, with both sides believing she is the last hope to locate the forbidden grimoire, a powerful item that will give mastery over the world to whichever side obtains it first.

Ritsuka Tachibana recently transferred to Shujin Academy. She’s a bit of an airhead, and other students tell her that she’s fallen for the school’s “Devil King.” Little does she know that the Devil King is actually Rem Kaginuki, one of the school’s students.

6. The Severing Crime Edge

Let’s start our list with the severing crime edge. Our protagonist has an obsession with cutting beautiful hair. This trait leads him to a rumored long hair ghost who lives in an abandoned house on a hill.

But soon finds out she is not a ghost but a beautiful girl with long flowing hair. She can’t cut her hair due to her family curse; she further explains the death Game where the wielder gets their wish granted if she gets killed by a cursed object.

He’s also in possession of the cursed object. A pair of scissors cut her hair with the scissors and set her free from the curse. Even though it has many flaws, an engaging storyline and decent characters make it an enjoyable show.

7. The Pilot’s Love Song

Moving on, we have the pilot’s love song to uncover the end of the sky; from ancient mythology, our protagonist goes to an island in the sky called Isla. He attends a dog’s high’s aerial division, where he enjoys his carefree life with his schoolmates.

One day island gets attacked by an air tribe dragging Isla into a war; if you’re looking for consistency and a smooth storyline, you probably won’t like the series. Even though the show leans towards action, Romance and Drama, I feel it mainly focuses on Drama and character development. So if you’re looking for these elements, do give it a try.

8. Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle

Coming at the eighth place, we have Tsubasa chronicle. During an excavation at the mysteriousruinsour protagonist finds his childhood friend, princess sakura. She appears with wings that disperse into many feathers; each lost feather carries the portion of her memory.

Our protagonist decides to travel through different dimensions and collect her feathers to save her life and restore her memories. Pacing can be slow for some viewers, but after some episodes, things get interesting. Overall, I feel enjoyable characters and action scenes are the show’s strong points.

9. A Town Where You Live

Moving on, we have a town where we live; our protagonist used to live a calm life out in the countryside; one day, a girl named Yuzuki comes from Tokyo to live with her parents. Creating many memories together, one day, she disappears from his life.

The story begins later when our protagonist moves to Tokyo with his sister, but he immediately gets mistaken for a burglar by her neighbor Asuka. Adding more to his troubled life, Yuzuki keeps avoiding him for no reason.

I feel you should go through the manga first; if you’re looking for plot twists and tired of mainstream shows, then you should give it a try.

10. Hatsukoi limited

Yoshihiko and Koyoi Bessho in Hatsukoi Limited (First Love Limited)

Coming up next on our list is Hatsukoi limited. The show follows the love stories of middle school and high school students, having an episodic format; each episode tends to focus on a different character and their story.

However, the development from the previous episode plays a minor role throughout the show. This show does a great job of balancing the comedy and romance genres. Also, the character and plot development are decent.

We can officially say that it’s one of the hidden gems that didn’t deserve much recognition. But on the other side, if you’re looking for a more drama-oriented show, you probably won’t like it.

11. Brighter Than the Dawning Blue

Coming at the fifth place, we have brighter than the dawning blue. A single contact point connects Moon and earth; our protagonist is very knowledgeable about the Moon and the kingdom of the sphere.

And he has an odd habit of pinching a girl’s nose to follow her mother’s footsteps princess fina from the kingdom of the sphere moves into his house. Being an old show, it’s bound to get overlooked by many people.

But I feel it’s one of the most okay romantic comedy shows out there; not to forget, many shows start strong but end up badly. But not in this case; in my opinion, this show has a tremendously satisfying ending.

12. Gamers!

Moving on with our list, we have gamers. Our protagonist is a typical high school gamer living his average school life; one day, he meets a lovely girl who happens to be the most popular girl from his school.

She finds out that he’s a gamer, and she wants to recruit him to the game club. However, upon arriving, he is aware of a different gaming side than he used to.

Now he tries to adapt to these wild and unexpected changes while keeping his sanity in check. However, all the flaws show manages to deliver the right laughter and entertainment. Also, the characters and slice of life elements are the show’s strong points.

13. Real Girl

Coming to this place, we have a real girl. Our protagonist loves a short, socially inept, and awkward; he immerses himself in video games and anime.  One day when forced to clean the swimming pool as a punishment, he meets a girl named Iran; knowing her reputation, he thinks that getting involved with her will only cost him more problems.

A real girl is a story of two characters where the boy is experiencing emotions he has never experienced before. And a girl who’s trying to break him out of his Shell, I feel this show is very Underrated. The unique premise, strong story, and excellent character development make it enjoyable.

14. I want to eat your pancreas

Moving on, we have I want to eat your pancreas. Our protagonist is a bookworm who has detached himself from the real world. His story starts when he stumbles upon a handwritten book titled living with dying.

He finds out the diary belongs to his popular classmate Sakura; she explains to him about her pancreatic disease, which only her parents know about. Even though she doesn’t have much time, he doesn’t sympathize with her Plight. But due to her persistent nature, he accompanies her for her remaining days.

Their bond strengthens with each passing day, eventually opening up his heart to discover the true meaning of life. I highly recommend watching it if you haven’t, don’t forget to carry some tissues.

15. Spice and wolf

Coming in the first place, we have spice and wolf. Holo is a powerful wolf deity who the villagers for Blessings once worshiped, but now she has been reduced to a mere Folk Tale. One day a traveling merchant recognizes her usual ability and offers her partnership with his business.

Now in possession of business skills and charismatic negotiator, he gets closer to opening his shop. But while traveling with holo, he realizes his aspirations are morphing into something unexpected.

The first thing to note this is a dialogue-oriented show, so be ready for dialogue-heavy episodes. But beautifully constructed plot and characters makes it a delight to watch by all age groups.
